I am a huge reader. I have been my whole life. In elementary school, I was the kid who preferred reading to running around on the playground. In middle and high school, I always had a book in my backpack. I would read in my room after homework. Before bed. I was even the nerdy kid who voluntarily did the summer reading program at the local library. Things haven't changed much since becoming an adult. It's still the only way I can get my brain to turn off before bed! I don't have as much time for reading as I did when I was a kid, but I still find time every day.
Candis and Keith have waited a long time for this day. And so have their boys. More than anything, this wedding day was about celebrating family, and there's nothing I love more than a family-centered wedding! Candis and Keith's children may be young, but they knew exactly how important this day was. An especially moving song during the ceremony made these two little boys melt into tears. They didn't care who saw them. Overwhelmed with emotion, they wiped at their eyes. Then they wrapped each other and their parents in a long hug, on the altar, finally a family. That is what this entire day was about!
Wanna know what Ed and I are doing for Valentine's Day this year? Absolutely nothing. Not because we've been married for over 20 years. Not because we forgot to make reservations. And not because we don't love each other. We just think Valentine's Day is stupid. If you know me, this is not new to you. I've been saying it for years. Love should not be reserved for one day a year. Love is too precious! It should happen every day. So instead, we celebrate our love and marriage throughout the year. Today, we're sharing a few of the ways we make sure our marriage is a top priority!
Rachel knew what she wanted for her wedding, but more importantly, she knew what she didn't want. The thing I love most about her is that she is not afraid to be herself. She knows her limits, and she doesn't push them. Her style oozes out of her, and she OWNS it! She has the right mix of art appreciation and love of color, but she knows when enough is enough. She found her perfect match in Justin, who gracefully lets her be herself, but also pulls her in and holds her close when she needs more than just herself. Their wedding day was the exquisite culmination of their relationship, and it reflected their personalities, both separately and together.
Ian isn't unlike your average Senior guy. He's quiet around adults, but energetic and boisterous around friends. He's athletic, keeping himself busy and fit on the soccer field, where he plays for his high school team. In his spare time, he can usually be found in front of his Xbox. He prefers comfortable, casual clothes, but has a natural style when he has to dress up. He's not a fan of forcing smiles in front of the camera. So, when his mom wants Senior photos, he's already out of his element!
Happy New Year! I realize that January is nearly over, but I consider the entire month of January to still be the start of the New Year. I mean, we haven't even gotten to experience 11/12 of it yet! This year, I have decided that I'm doing New Year's goals instead of New Year's resolutions. "Resolution" is almost a dirty word these days! So instead, I have written down a list of personal goals and business goals for this year. An actual written-down list. To keep me accountable. And on track. I hope.
I had been waiting to meet this girl for months! Catherine doesn't currently live in Memphis, so we had our initial meeting over the phone. Even though we couldn't see each other, we just clicked! You know how phone calls can be difficult when you can't see body language? We didn't have that problem. We bonded over succulents, love, and Southern charm, and I just couldn't wait to meet her face to face! We finally got our chance when she and Trent were in Memphis for the holidays. We scheduled their winter engagement session while they were here, and we lucked out with a sunny day!
Today's colorful Brooks Museum wedding is such a special one! Lana and Darren are such kind-hearted souls with the sweetest love story. Lana is a designer, and loves art in all its shapes and forms. She brought that vibe to her wedding day with bright pops of color and style (just wait till you see her dress)! Art is such a big part of her life that she and Darren decided to have their reception in an art museum! Even though every detail of their wedding was gorgeous, my favorite part of their day was something small that came from the heart. Keep scrolling to find out what it was...
When we first starting planning their river engagement session with Claire and Andrew, they told us that they both felt pretty awkward taking photos. You've probably heard me say this before, but I love hearing this! Most of our couples are not professional models. They find it at least a little uncomfortable to be photographed (I sure do!). Most people don't know how to find the best light or the best angles. This is where I get to really stretch my professional muscles and lead them through the process. My very favorite thing is hearing that someone had a great time having their photo taken, even if they were nervous at first! By the end of their session, Claire and Andrew were pros, and we had so much fun with them!
We are so excited to share this Ballet Memphis wedding with you guys today! We have decided that ALL wedding receptions should be held in a dance studio. The sprung floors are literally made for dancing! This dance mom approves 110%. It felt fabulous on the feet all night long, and it looked gorgeous to boot! Ballet Memphis, like every great dancer, dressed up and performed beyond all expectations!
