Anne-Sophie and Dalton have been in a long-distance relationship for most of the time they've been together. They are also both medical students, so free time is rare and precious. These two know bestt how to make the most of every minute that they are in the same city. They squeeze in visits when they can, and they make every second count, even if it's just sitting on the couch binge watching the latest Netflix show. We were so happy that we could find a time to get them together in Memphis for their engagement session, and we loved watching them soak up every minute together!
Ed and I are always so uplifted when we shoot weddings that are simply classic and clearly all about the marriage. This beautiful silvery blue winter wedding at the Cadre was definitely one of those! Alicia and Charles are so in love. They are a gentle, quiet couple, and to watch them together is to know that they will be making each other happy for a very long time. From their sweet First Look to the way they sought out each other for a quiet moment during their festive reception, it was obvious that they are right at home in this new family that they have built together.
If we're friends (and I hope we are!), you already know that cocktail hour is a big deal for us. For Ed and me, happy hour is more than just drinks. It's a state of mind. It's almost always a daily Mon-Fri thing, so it's inherently tied to the work day. But it represents the end of the work day. It's a time to gather with friends and revel in relaxation, if only for an hour. It means that we survived another daily grind, and now it's time to let go of the stress, shake it off, and prepare ourselves to kick butt yet again tomorrow. We believe that everyone deserves an hour a day to rest and unwind.
Every year, Ed and I take an adults-only couples' trip with our best friends. We accidentally started this tradition with a quick weekend getaway to Nashville, but we've put more thought into it in the years that followed. This year was our fifth annual trip. We decided on Charleston for our destination, and Ed and I were so excited to finally get a chance to tour this city together.
I've been wanting to do a Behind the Scenes post like this for years! Finally, last year I actually got organized enough to make it happen. Ever wonder what Ed and I are really like on wedding days? I've assembled a collection from last year that will probably give you a good idea. Keep scrolling for a few laughs!
I am a huge reader. I have been my whole life. In elementary school, I was the kid who preferred reading to running around on the playground. In middle and high school, I always had a book in my backpack. I would read in my room after homework. Before bed. I was even the nerdy kid who voluntarily did the summer reading program at the local library. Things haven't changed much since becoming an adult. It's still the only way I can get my brain to turn off before bed! I don't have as much time for reading as I did when I was a kid, but I still find time every day.
Candis and Keith have waited a long time for this day. And so have their boys. More than anything, this wedding day was about celebrating family, and there's nothing I love more than a family-centered wedding! Candis and Keith's children may be young, but they knew exactly how important this day was. An especially moving song during the ceremony made these two little boys melt into tears. They didn't care who saw them. Overwhelmed with emotion, they wiped at their eyes. Then they wrapped each other and their parents in a long hug, on the altar, finally a family. That is what this entire day was about!
Wanna know what Ed and I are doing for Valentine's Day this year? Absolutely nothing. Not because we've been married for over 20 years. Not because we forgot to make reservations. And not because we don't love each other. We just think Valentine's Day is stupid. If you know me, this is not new to you. I've been saying it for years. Love should not be reserved for one day a year. Love is too precious! It should happen every day. So instead, we celebrate our love and marriage throughout the year. Today, we're sharing a few of the ways we make sure our marriage is a top priority!
Rachel knew what she wanted for her wedding, but more importantly, she knew what she didn't want. The thing I love most about her is that she is not afraid to be herself. She knows her limits, and she doesn't push them. Her style oozes out of her, and she OWNS it! She has the right mix of art appreciation and love of color, but she knows when enough is enough. She found her perfect match in Justin, who gracefully lets her be herself, but also pulls her in and holds her close when she needs more than just herself. Their wedding day was the exquisite culmination of their relationship, and it reflected their personalities, both separately and together.
Ian isn't unlike your average Senior guy. He's quiet around adults, but energetic and boisterous around friends. He's athletic, keeping himself busy and fit on the soccer field, where he plays for his high school team. In his spare time, he can usually be found in front of his Xbox. He prefers comfortable, casual clothes, but has a natural style when he has to dress up. He's not a fan of forcing smiles in front of the camera. So, when his mom wants Senior photos, he's already out of his element!
