{sherri & nathan: joined}

September 3, 2010

A month before high school graduation, Nathan got Sherri’s number when a mutual friend used Nathan’s phone to send a text to Sherri. This mutual friend ended up telling Nathan all about Sherri, and even showed him a photo. Nathan liked what he saw, and decided to keep the number stored in his phone. Good thing he did, because he used it later to ask Sherri out, and they have been inseparable ever since. So, technically, Sherri and Nathan are high school sweethearts, if only just barely.

Nathan and Sherri just fit. There’s simply no other way to describe it. The air is lighter around them, and they both glow when they have the other in their sights. Even though they’ve been together for 4 years, they still act as though they are newly in love.

Nathan was a happy, relaxed groom, and looking oh-so-good in his brown and blue tux. Sherri had an extra special glow on her wedding day. The girl could not stop smiling! She was grinning the entire day.

Just look at the anticipation on Sherri’s face. I love the little intimate moment a bride shares with her dad right before being walked down the aisle.
ah_sherri_joined_10

And Nathan’s reaction? Tears of joy and love.

The maid of honor looks on in admiration and emotion…

ah_sherri_joined_15

But it can’t match the look of love that Sherri has, just moments away from being Nathan’s wife.

ah_sherri_joined_16

After the ceremony, we had a few minutes to capture some photos of the new Mr. & Mrs.

ah_sherri_joined_18

The bride and groom left for their reception amid a storm of bubbles, and they couldn’t have been happier than in this moment.

ah_sherri_joined_17

The reception was held at Grover’s Corner, in Cleveland, MS. A few detail shots…

ah_sherri_joined_21

Anne Taylor did an incredible job with the cakes. The bride’s cake was lovely, and perfectly detailed.

ah_sherri_joined_22

But the groom’s cake stole the show! Nathan is an avid guitar player, and this cake was a masterpiece. No one wanted to cut it!

The new Mr. & Mrs.!

A tender moment during the First Dance…

ah_sherri_joined_25

This kid could dance. Like, dude. Watch out, So You Think You Can Dance.

ah_sherri_joined_26

The bride and groom weren’t too shabby on the dance floor, either.

ah_sherri_joined_27

I’ll end with this shot that captures the festivities of the night perfectly.

Congratulations, Sherri & Nathan! Thank you so much for letting me be a part of your special day. Cheers!

{i. am. superwoman.}

September 2, 2010

Oh yeah. That’s right. I do it all. Seriously. Mom, photographer, life journaler, webmaster, computer expert, chef, chauffeur, homework specialist, friend, sister, wife, translator (really. ask my 5 year old son. or, ask me. cuz i will have to translate).

I rock. And roll. Well, almost. You may have noticed that maid is not on that list. That was intentional. As a maid, I suck. Not because I’m not good at it. I am. But because I don’t do it very often. See that list up there? Those are more important. I know how to prioritize! At the end of the day, I am more concerned that my kids are in bed on time, fed, and have their homework done. That my photo shoot is edited and on the way to the client. That there is still just a little time left to watch Medium (not my fault. My friend Val makes me).

So, yeah. I have dishes in the sink. There’s a pile of shoes by my front door. And for some reason, my children still think that my floor is the trash can! And I’m okay with that. I can step over the pile of markers.

ah_090110

Here’s to priorities. And to llamas with hats. And using italics to emphasize words. Oh yeah, babe.

Cheers!

I’m a photographer. I have uber fancy equipment that is an extension of my arm, more often than not. Sometimes, on occasion, I have been known to forget to carry it to the family gathering. Sometime, on occasion, I forget to charge the battery, or format the CF cards. Sometimes, on occasion, I just don’t feel like lugging that heavy thing around! But sometimes, sometimes, every once in awhile, I go somewhere that doesn’t allow cameras.

Concerts can be such places. Those of you who know me (and probably most of you who don’t), know that I am a rocker chic. I make no secret of it. I gotta have my music! I would rather see a live show than go to a movie any night. I would rather listen to my iTunes than watch TV. Give me music, and give it to me loud!

I had the chance recently to see two of my favorite bands, Shinedown & Chevelle (along with 10 Years & Sevendust who were almost equally awesome). The show was amazing! One of the best (musically) I’ve seen, and I wanted to remember it. But

  • a.) they don’t allow cameras inside, and
  • 2.) did I mention that my camera is heavy? iPhone to the rescue!

*disclaimer #1: this is NOT a post endorsing rule-breaking. doing so can result in the confiscation of your iPhone, which would be bad. there. i told you so.*

*disclaimer #2: these are iPhone photos (duh) taken from far away. these photos do NOT fairly represent my photographer abilities (or lack thereof)!*

Check out the lighting! Sigh. Bring on the neon (this is Chevelle. Yes, I know it’s not actually neon).

ah_shinedown_1

10 Years. Just in case you couldn’t read the big sign.

ah_shinedown_2

Shinedown, Shinedown, and Shinedown. Ah, Shinedown. How I love thee. True entertainment. Other artists take note. “You couldn’t pry this smile off my face with a crowbar.” They always seem genuinely happy to perform. And perform they do.

Here’s to the Sound of Madness. Cheers!

Squeeeee! I’m so excited, I can’t stand myself. Seriously. Coming soon to a camera bag near me:

I love new toys. And equipment that will let me take even better photos. Did I mention squee?

Here’s to new toys and professional growth. Cheers!

17 years ago, I gave birth to the most amazing, creative, talented, and beautiful little girl. To me, she will always be a little girl. But she’s also my very best friend. She has been there for me when no one else has, and we have been through a lot together. Now that she’s almost an adult, I can see the rambunctious girl that she was, the live-for-the-moment teenager she is now, and the stunning woman that she will become. Yes, stunning.

All Morgan wanted for her birthday was a trip to Chicago to see one of her favorite Japanese music artists, Miyavi. So, mom and daughter made a two day road trip out of it, and we both had a blast! I agreed to take her to the concert and put up with her eccentric music tastes (which actually turned out to be so. amazing. More on that to come in a later post), if she would agree to let me take photos. And take photos I did!

ah_morgan17_1

ah_morgan17_3

We walked all over downtown Chicago, had some amazing pizza, and window shopped all day on Michigan Ave. We took a break for some Starbucks and snapped these:

ah_morgan17_4

ah_morgan17_5

ah_morgan17_6

These pigeons were not scared of anything, so I got Morgan to walk over to them and spook them to make them fly.

ah_morgan17_7

Normally I would not put a subject in direct sunlight, but this wall mural was too cool!

ah_morgan17_8

We went into Tiffany’s, just to say we did, and took this not far from it.

ah_morgan17_9

Morgan, you inspire me.

ah_morgan17_10

Morgan was in heaven when she found The. Biggest. Rue 21. Evah. We almost got kicked out for taking this photo inside the store. Really? Seriously, people. I’m not stealing ideas for the fall line, I swear.

ah_morgan17_11

The many faces of my daughter. While waiting for Chicago-style pizza. In Chicago.

ah_morgan17_12

And my favorite from the day. THIS is my Morgan. Every bit of it. Down to the Hello Kitty bag.

ah_morgan17_13

Happy birthday, baby. You have graced the last 17 years of my life. Beyond belief. Cheers!

{ami: anna maria island}

July 13, 2010

I’ve just returned from a most lovely vacation on Anna Maria Island, FL. I am worn out, but my skin is bronze and glowing, and misses the sun already. I love the acronym for this beautiful place because it sounds like my name when pronounced. A sign that I am meant to be there? Yes, I do believe so!

AMI has the most gorgeous beach I have ever been to. There may be more beautiful beaches somewhere, but I have never seen them with my eyes. Soft, warm sand, lots of shells for the taking, and very few tourists. And no oil. Yet. It’s a tiny town with no huge resorts and over-commercialized attractions. And the food? Yum.

This was the view from our bungalow, directly on the beach. I just love oat grass.

ah_fl2010_1

A summer storm blew over the ocean the first afternoon we were there. No rain, but lots of beautiful dark clouds. The sun peeked through and made the most beautiful sparkles on the water. Le sigh.

ah_fl2010_2

Did I mention that I love oat grass? I love oat grass. Like, love it.

ah_fl2010_3

Just a little detail I loved…

ah_fl2010_4

And, of course, sunset. Beautiful? Not even a worthy word.

ah_fl2010_5

A picture of my Morgan, taking a picture of me, taking a picture of her, taking a picture….

ah_fl2010_6

The boys. My Alex on the left, with his cheesy smile and ocean hair, and my nephew Dylan on the right, with his sandy, cheetos grin.

ah_fl2010_7

And the kids at sunset…

ah_fl2010_7a

ah_fl2010_8Here’s to warm water, sun, and beautiful sand. Cheers!

{my favorite things}

June 21, 2010

Sun. Water. Beautiful girls. ‘Nuff said.

(p.s. Alex was being a butthead and wouldn’t get in the picture. I promise he’s one of my favorite things too!)

*disclaimer: iPhone pic.

Clint wants to get married. You can just tell. He wants to marry her. He’s not afraid of the details, of the planning, as long as at the end of the day, he gets to be Mollie’s husband. Well, they still have to wait awhile for that, but in the meantime, I was lucky enough to be able to document their engagement.

It had threatened to rain earlier in the day, but the clouds cleared off just in time for our shoot. Once in awhile, you get good karma! The filtered light under the trees was yummy, not that they needed any help to look good!

ah_mollie1
ah_mollie2

I love how this little series really shows how they interact with each other, and I love catching that through the lens!

ah_mollie3

There’s a Mona Lisa-esque smirk behind Mollie’s smile here…

ah_mollie4

And she knows how to work it! Those eyes say everything.

ah_mollie5

We did quite a bit of walking around these gardens to make sure we found all the best places.

ah_mollie6

Mollie, you are on fire! And Clint knows it.
ah_mollie7

ah_mollie8

I mean, seriously. Just look at how he adores her!

ah_mollie9

One of my faves. It just makes me so happy for some reason.

ah_mollie10

Hello, gorgeous backlighting. Don’t you love the way every wisp of hair is bathed in golden light??

ah_mollie11

Okay. Let me explain. It must have been the light. There was something ravishing about this pergola, and I snapped photo after photo here. They looked wonderful under it! These are some of my absolute favorites of the entire session.

ah_mollie12

Love me a funky stone wall!

ah_mollie13

Possibly my most fave of the day. Mollie, you are beautiful!

ah_mollie14

Mollie, you will make one gorgeous bride (I’m crossing my fingers that the dress will be ready on time!). Clint, I promise that I really do know that your name is not Chris. Thank you for letting me capture your love, and I look forward to the wedding! Cheers!

{little k: celebrated}

April 19, 2010

I have 3 girls. To me, they will always be my little girls, even if the oldest one is now nearly 17. Naturally, I have a weakness for little girls. Bad weakness. So how thrilled was I to be able to shoot the most adorable 19-month old little girl on the planet? SO thrilled! Like, way, way thrilled. Yes, I just said “like.” I say “like.” Don’t pretend you don’t.

We took little K downtown and followed her around for an hour and a half. Kids sure do make me work harder, but capturing all their little-ness is so worth it! She wore me out, but I’m pretty sure at the end of the shoot, I had worn her out as well. Check out little miss cuteness!

ah_davis1

This chic is NOT afraid of the camera. I’m sure she’s quite used to it!

ah_davis2

ah_davis3

ah_davis4

Isn’t she a natural? Rawr.

ah_davis5

ah_davis6

After a change of clothes, we led her down to the water, where she, like every child, found more fascination in throwing rocks than standing there being pretty. Luckily, she’s pretty no matter what she does!

ah_davis7

ah_davis10

Is this the perfect china doll or what? One of my faves:

ah_davis9

ah_davis8

ah_davis11

Seriously? Can you get any cuter than this?

ah_davis12

Picking flowers for mommy and grandma:

ah_davis13

By the time we got to the gazebo bench, she was ready to rest all of, oh… 5 seconds!

ah_davis14

Yes, I do have an obsession with feet. Especially baby feet.

ah_davis15

I snapped a few naked baby shots in between changes.

ah_davis16

Mom requested some together. It’s obvious that little K gets her gorgeousness from her mother.

ah_davis17

ah_davis18

Sass. Oh yeah. It’s all sass. This girl has it in gallons.

ah_davis19

What child doesn’t like a little peek-a-boo?

ah_davis20

The late afternoon sun offered up some of my favorite shots of the day. Girl, thou art gorgeous!

ah_davis21

Little K, you were an absolute joy! Thanks for the exercise, and thank you so much for letting me be a part of a gorgeous day! These photos don’t do you justice. Cheers!
