Oh, you guys! I am SO over-the-moon excited to share this session today! I can't tell you how long I've been wanting to photograph a couple in a canoe. In formal clothes. In the lake. At sunset! It takes a special, adventurous couple to give us the trust and freedom for this type of shoot, and we found it in Val and Reed! They were not afraid of getting a little wet, and just WAIT until you see them standing up in the canoe! This one was one of our favorites for so many reasons!
Emily's smile was the first thing I noticed about her. She has that kind of smile that means every inch of it, that lights up her whole face. You can't fake a smile like that! I knew as soon as I met her that Emily was a kind, genuine person, just like her smile. I also knew that Trey was lucky to have her, so he must be pretty special too. He didn't get to come to that initial meeting, so we were eager to meet him at their engagement session to see if he was as great as Emily. It turns out that he is just as warm and caring as we had suspected. These two make such a great pair!
We don't break the rules often. But special circumstances call for exceptions! With this engagement session, we broke ALL the rules. 1. Only shoot right before sunset. 2. Don't shoot on holidays. 3. NEVER shoot when it rains. 4. Only shoot when the temperature is between 50 and 80 degrees. Yeah, we broke every single one of those. And you know what? I'd do it again. This special New Year's Eve engagement session turned out to be one of our favorites!
We have such a fun midtown Memphis engagement shoot to share today! Ed and I are HUGE fans of wine and cheese (I could seriously enjoy it every night for dinner and not get tired of it!), so when these two told us they wanted to do a wine and cheese picnic in the park, under a canopy of beautiful Fall leaves for their engagement session, we were all in!
We had such a great time during this colorful engagement session! Fall is never a disappointing time to shoot, and the red, orange, and yellow leaves added even more color to these images. When we accidentally found a purple door that perfectly matched Liz's lavender shirt, it was the icing on the cake! We got to know these two quite well as we explored midtown together, looking for all the perfect spots that would bring out their personalities.
Ed and I love to travel for engagement sessions! We always encourage our couples to make their engagement session about their everyday lives, since the wedding day will only be one, very special day. These two have been living in New York City for a few years, so we could only capture their everyday lives by going to them! We made a long weekend out of it, spending one whole, full day with our couple! We got to see the city through their eyes, and for us, we wouldn't have wanted it any other way.
Hello 2017! I've been super bad about updating the blog with our recent shoots, but I have a good excuse! We shot SO many sessions in November! We don't have a long fall season here in the South, so we have to jump on what we do get. Here in Memphis, November really gives us the best for Fall as far as temperature and color goes, so we stayed busy the whole month. And that means we have so much to share!
We absolutely LOVE it when we get to work with a family more than once! We shot Ellen's wedding a couple years ago, so when her sister Emily called us for her own wedding, we were thrilled! Not only are these two sisters both gorgeous (I'm the luckiest photographer!), but they belong to the sweetest family. Like her sister, Emily has chosen a good, handsome, and funny man to accompany her through life. We had so much fun meeting Josh and getting to know these two better!
I read something once that has managed to stick with me for a long time. Wedding rings are beautiful things - they are shiny and sparkle when new. Diamonds catch the light and play it across nearby surfaces. They are, I think it's safe to say, the most coveted piece of jewelry there is. But an old, worn wedding ring is even more beautiful. Each scratch represents the time you've spent with your soulmate. Each ding tells a story. The more flaws the ring has, the more beautiful it is. Because it stands for something bigger than us. Kanesha and Bates know from experience just how true that is. They may be having a wedding coming up soon, but they already wear their rings, because they're already married.
Instead of flowers, he brought her a gold star. Everyone does flowers. Cody wanted to impress Tiffany, and give her something that would last and that she would remember. And, okay, maybe he was trying to get a laugh out of her too. Cody is a funny guy, laid-back and lighthearted, and girls love a guy who can make them laugh. It worked, as Tiffany has been charmed by him since the beginning!
