04 Apr Colorful Midtown Memphis Engagement
We first met with Akeilah and Tony back in July of LAST YEAR, more than a full year before their wedding. We loved them right away, and it didn’t hurt that we spent more time laughing with them than anything else. So, you can imagine how eager we were to see them again, and even more excited to get them in front of our cameras!
Akeilah and Tony have been together a long time, and they have learned how to make a relationship work. Akeilah told me that the one thing they wanted to show in their engagement photos is their friendship. She explained how important it is for them to be friends before anything else, and I LOVE that! We agree while that love is awesome, it’s so special when you really like your spouse as well.
Ed and I met Akeilah and Tony in midtown Memphis, in the area where they had their first date (and Akeilah’s first ever date!). We all joked that they hung out in Overton Square before it was cool! We definitely think it’s much cooler with them in it. They brought along their daughter, Atourie, and we had so much fun incorporating a few family shots too!
We ended their session at sunset along the Mississippi River, where they once walked hand in hand along its banks on that first date years ago. Traffic was crazy (thanks to a baseball game downtown that had just ended), so we had only a sliver of light left to work with when we got there. But Akeilah and Tony were rock stars and worked it out so quickly! The Memphis neon was just starting to light up the night as we finished.
Akeilah and Tony, thank you so much for laughing along with us for a day! We had SO much fun with you guys (and little Atourie, of course)! You will make a beautiful family, and we’re so glad that we got to document this special time in your lives! Enjoy a few of our favorites!
