12 Sep Sunset El Dorado Hills Engagement in Sacramento, California
Friends, you have never seen a sunset until you have seen it in the California hills! There is something extra special about the light in California, especially when you watch the last of the day’s rays sink below the trails in the distance and reflect itself on the brilliant water below. Fair warning: this is a long post! I have soooo many photos to share today from our time in Sacramento!
Marisa and Paul are two of the kindest, warmest, and most fun people we have ever met. They, along with Rosie, their adorable white fluffy ball of canine energy, welcomed us into their Sacramento home with open arms and open hearts. The minute we walked in her door, Marisa handed us cocktails and made a spread of cheeses, meats, crackers, fruits, and jams, served on designer cutting boards that had me wishing for a collection of my own. Talk about host goals! She definitely had me at hello!
As the four of us nibbled on charcuterie and threw the tennis ball for Rosie, we planned out our engagement session for the next day. Paul is a Navy pilot and the proud owner of the cutest little red plane I’ve ever seen (don’t tell him I called her “cute!”), so we knew we wanted to get some photos on the tarmac. But for the big finale, Marisa had picked out one of her favorite trails in the nearby Sacramento hills, so we decided we had to save that for sunset.
Marisa and Paul chose their favorite dog-friendly pub for lunch (again, these two know how to win my heart!), and we snapped some photos as they showed us around downtown Sacramento. Before heading out to the tarmac, we got a personal tour of the state Capitol grounds (Marisa is a lawyer there!), found all the great coffee shops, and admired all the trees. Sacramento is so green and beautiful!
Then we saw the trails.
We wound through the hills on paths that were nearly pink with California dirt and rocks. The plants were still green – we were surrounded by native succulents! oh, my heart! – and the slowly sinking sun gave everything a warm glow. The best part? Marisa and Paul brought a celebratory bottle or sparkling rosé that we saved for the end! It could not have been more perfect.
Marisa and Paul, we don’t know how to thank you for your hospitality. We had a blast documenting your love, even if Rosie preferred to show me her backside the whole time! You went above and beyond – from the warm welcome, the best engagement session ever, a whole day of California wine tasting afterwards, to taking us to the airport at 4am. Our favorite part of California was definitely YOU.
Hopefully, these photos are a small token of our gratitude. It was SO hard to choose favorites! Thank you, thank you, thank you. Enjoy!
Be sure to leave these two some love! If they get 25 comments or more, they will get a free print (and have you to thank for it)!
