15 Oct Emily + Colby | a Memphis River Engagement
When Emily first emailed me about her wedding, I kept thinking to myself, “This name is so familiar. Do I know her?” I went on to compose my reply, sent it off to her, then it hit me. I immediately emailed her again, asking, “are you by any chance a high school teacher? I think you had my daughter Helen in your English class last year!” I even remembered Helen telling me that her teacher got engaged. It just so happened that Emily was that teacher!
As soon as we met Emily and Colby, we knew we were going to have a great time together. They are both so laid back and easy to be around. As I’m sure most people who meet them do, we immediately felt comfortable and at ease with them! This made it super easy to take such great engagement photos. It was like walking around Memphis with two old friends, snapping a few photos here and there. That’s the way we like it!
Since Emily is a Memphis girl and Colby is from Arkansas, we knew we wanted to get some photos that incorporated the Memphis river bridge. After all, it was physically the thing that tied them together! They met downtown, so we also wanted to tie in that area. We started along this fun, graphic wall that I’ve always loved! We were hoping for a hashtag symbol, but no such luck. Hey Memphis artists, time for an update? The asterisk worked just as well, though!
I have a thing for string lights. If we see any, there’s an excellent chance that I’m going to stop and take pictures in front of them!
What you can’t see in this photo is Ed doing acrobatics in order to hold our reflector to block the light from Colby’s face. Anything for a great shot!
Best. Sign. Ever.
Emily! Oh, Emily. You killed this one! Also, it’s Helen’s favorite 😉
After a quick change, we moved to the Landings to get some Memphis river shots right at sunset. It was beautiful light!
One of my favorites! Gorgeous glow and autumn grasses. Heaven, in my book.
This diamond is huge! Colby, ya did good.
These just may be my favorite bridge shots ever!
Ed took this one on the right, and I was totally jealous when I saw it.
We waited for the sun to go down so that we could get just a few with the bridge lit up. Ah… the things you can do with a streetlight!
Emily and Colby, thank you so much for hanging us for an evening stroll along the river. We had such a great time! You both made our job so easy, and I know the wedding will be a breeze!
