27 Mar Laura + Evan | a Midtown Memphis Engagement
Accidental love is one of my favorite kinds of love stories! Laura and Evan didn’t start out with romance in mind, but they ended up finding their way to it slowly instead. It was built carefully and without intention, and it ended up surprising them both.
Evan was a bartender in midtown Memphis where Laura would frequent with friends. They got to know each other on opposite sides of the counter at first. Laura would come to Evan for the atmosphere and conversation. Evan would always keep an eye on Laura and make sure she had a safe way home. Later, their friendship grew closer outside of the bar, where they would walk along Broad Avenue and watch the sun set behind the water tower.
One night, Laura was in the bar, trying to avoid another patron who was trying, unsuccessfully, to pick her up. She asked Evan to pretend to be her boyfriend and walk her out. He took the role to heart, kissing her when they turned the corner towards her car. She was caught off guard and surprised, since they were supposed to be only friends. But even more surprising, she found that there were sparks in that kiss.
Evan will tell you that he knew all along. Laura just needed convincing, and he succeeded in doing just that. They’ve been kissing each other ever since, and they’ve never looked back!
Ed and I met Laura and Evan at some of their favorite midtown Memphis haunts. We started at Levitt Shell, since they’ve spent many a night there listening to some of their favorite music.
Evan had Laura’s ring custom made for her. There’s only one like it in the world, and it suits her perfectly!
Laura and Evan are both big fans of tattoos, and we wanted to make sure to capture some of them in the shoot. I can’t wait to see this beautiful owl paired with a wedding dress!
Laura can’t stop smiling when she’s with Evan. That’s how you know it’s true love!
We HAD to incorporate the spot of that infamous first kiss! Lucky for us, this mustached flamingo was dressing up the wall quite nicely.
Evan does the serious look like no other!
We wanted to make sure to hit the water tower right at sunset. As Evan told us, “this view is why we come here.” Now, this place is even more special to them because it’s where they fell in love.
Laura told us that this mural was where they became friends. They were both here for the revitalization of the Broad Street area, and they watched this mural being painted. It’s a symbol to their love and friendship. This infinity sign says it all.
We ended the night just after dark, on the back patio of the very bar where Evan used to work.
Laura and Evan, thank you so much for not only telling, but SHOWING, us your love story. It was so much fun seeing a new side to midtown Memphis, and following along the steps of your friendship and love. We had a blast with you guys, and we can’t WAIT for the wedding!
