14 Jul Colorful and Musical Memphis Engagement
I read something once that has managed to stick with me for a long time. Wedding rings are beautiful things – they are shiny and sparkle when new. Diamonds catch the light and play it across nearby surfaces. They are, I think it’s safe to say, the most coveted piece of jewelry there is. But an old, worn wedding ring is even more beautiful. Each scratch represents the time you’ve spent with your soulmate. Each ding tells a story. The more flaws the ring has, the more beautiful it is. Because it stands for something bigger than us. Kanesha and Bates know from experience just how true that is. They may be having a wedding coming up soon, but they already wear their rings, because they’re already married.
Kanesha and Bates had a small, private ceremony when they were married. Now they are gearing up for the wedding that they never had! We are so excited to capture their vows (again!) later this year. They are both musicians, so they wanted music to play a big part in their engagement session. We had so much fun planning our time with them, and we even got to hear a little of their talent!
What better place to start in the Music City than Beale Street? Nothing says music more than a street lined with jazz and blues. Kanesha and Bates had plans later this day, so instead of our usual sunset time, we met Kanesha and Bates early in the morning. It worked out great! It turns out that there are very few tourists in downtown Memphis in the morning. We almost had the whole street to ourselves!
Bates pulled out his guitar for a few shots, and Kanesha sang along. It was such a treat!
It’s always fun to be “walking in Memphis!” Sorry. I had to.
I loved their sense of style and all that COLOR!
After a quick change, we went in search of a painted piano.
Bates can play several instruments! Kanesha, you look absolutely stunning in this one!
It’s not often that I get to photograph TWO rings on an engagement session!
I can always trust Ed to get the creative shots!
Kanesha and Bates, thank you so much for taking time out of your day to hang out with us! We had a blast getting to know you better. I can honestly say that no one’s ever sang for us during photos! Let’s do it again!
