Oh, how we love elopements! We’re not exactly sure how elopements came to have the stigma that they sometimes carry. We know how they are sometimes pictured as two rebels running off together despite family disapproval. But perhaps that’s what makes them exactly what we think they are…. romantic. Detra and Fred have very loving, approving friends and families. No running away together here! They simply wanted to focus on their love, without all the planning and preparation that weddings require. They wanted to be married NOW. So they did. And now that their families have been informed (and surprised!), we can finally share the photos of their beautiful day!
Detra and Fred know what’s important. Though it’s easy to get wrapped up in the excitement, beauty, and thrill of a wedding, sometimes we forget that it’s really about marriage. It’s not about the flowers. It’s not about the food, or the band, or the dress (though us girls are loathe to admit it!). It’s about the vows. It’s about dedicating, protecting, and sharing in the life of a whole other person. It’s about that remarkable moment when two lives become one. Detra and Fred gave up the production in lieu of something truly outstanding… love. And a simple life together.
We are honored to have been a part of this private ceremony. We love not only being included and witnessing something very few people got to share, but also to be able to document it! That Detra and Fred wanted to give up the wedding, but not the photography, makes them two of our very favorite people! Their marriage started on this day, and it was a day they wanted to remember always!
Detra and Fred were married in the private office of their pastor, with only their closest friends (and us!) present.
After everything was official, we roamed around downtown for some beautiful portraits. What better place to start for an elopement than the courthouse steps?
Detra, you made a stunning bride!
Detra and Fred have a very quiet, tender love, and love that about them!
Later, we moved to catch sunset on the river. And what a sunset it was! The weather and light could not have been more perfect on this October evening.
Seriously, you two. So good!
I love early evening along the river, just as the city lights start to come on. But Detra and Fred had eyes only for each other.
Detra and Fred, we are so. very. thankful. that we got to celebrate with you! It was a joy and a privilege. We know you will be happy for years to come, and your love reminds us why we love what we do. Thank you for that!
