Ft. Walton Beach Sand

Playing in the Ft. Walton Beach Sand

We can’t complain about spending an entire week in the Ft. Walton Beach sand. Well, except that we didn’t spend much of it in the sand. The real reason we are here is to watch our kiddos and our awesome dance studio compete for their national dance titles. So we spend most of the time here at the Convention Center with blankets and sweaters (they keep it so cold in there for the dancers)! But there are a couple non-dancing days that we are able to spend out on the beach.

Luckily, so far (knock on wood!), there hasn’t been a single drop of rain. Not to be confused with last year, when it rained the entire week we were here. The weather has been sunny and beautiful, and the waters calm. It’s been perfect for dolphin watching from our balcony, and enjoying some evening strolls on the beach sand.

On days that the kids do dance, we are usually done before dinner time. We have really been enjoying making our own dinners in the condo and spending time together as a family. No fuss, no stress, and no rush. Jessie spends a lot of time with her dance family, so she has been real good about making sure we get to see her in the evenings. Family is the most important thing in our lives, and everything we do revolves around it. It makes my heart swell to know that what is so important to us is also important to our children, and that they enjoy spending time together as much as we do.

Speaking of family, this trip wouldn’t be the same without our extended family. Ed’s parents have been staying with family in Pensacola, but they drove to Ft. Walton for each and every performance. They will also be dog and house sitting for us when we move on to Mexico Beach for the real vacation portion of our vacation.

My parents traveled with us and are sharing in the expense and duties of keeping everyone fed and organized. They have been the kids’ strongest supporters in the audience. They have sat and shivered for every performance and cheered for not just our kids, but all the kids in the studio. We are so blessed and grateful for our parents. We wouldn’t be able to do half the things we do without their love and support!

For that reason (and so many others), this photo of Alex and my mom is priceless.

Alex has been having the time of his life playing in the sand and water. Even though we haven’t had many full days on the beach yet, he takes advantage of the cooler evening weather after dances to go out and get sandy.

Beach sand is perfect for reflecting beautiful sunset light!

Jessie and Alex are so lucky to not only have fantastic grandparents, but wonderful sisters too. Morgan and Helen haven’t missed a single dance, and they’ve been great about getting up early every day and supporting their sister and brother. They haven’t complained once and are so proud of their siblings. I am happiest when everyone is getting along and supporting each other!

And to end this blog post, a photo of the clear, rainless sky and its bright crescent moon at the end of the day.

Life is good.

Here’s to family support. And playing in the sand. And clear beach evenings.

Cheers!
