24 Jan New Year’s Eve 2018 and the Start of 2019
Happy New Year! I realize that January is nearly over, but I consider the entire month of January to still be the start of the New Year. I mean, we haven’t even gotten to experience 11/12 of it yet! This year, I have decided that I’m doing New Year’s goals instead of New Year’s resolutions. “Resolution” is almost a dirty word these days! So instead, I have written down a list of personal goals and business goals for this year. An actual written-down list. To keep me accountable. And on track. I hope.
One of my 2019 New Year’s goals is to take more personal photos with my SLR camera. I’ve really been bad about this the past few years. I use almost-true excuses like, “my camera is so heavy to carry around,” or “I just want to be present.” But what I really mean is “taking photos feels too much like work.” So I’m making a commitment to myself and our family to record more of our own lives. I love being able to use my talent as a gift to others. But my kids and my family deserve the same.
So I’m ignoring the excuses and picking up my camera more.

Luckily, my kids love photos, and they help keep me focused! (Get it? “Focus”ed? Like a camera? Ha. Okay, sorry.)
Helen had a New Year’s Eve party at her house, and they went all out! All the sparkles and sparklers! They dressed up early just so that there would be enough light for photos. Ah, I love them. They truly understand that photographer life!
Oh, and if you’re wondering how to New Year’s Eve, these kids do it RIGHT! How perfect are all these sequins?? And Matt chose his outfit to match Helen’s dress. Take note, guys. He’s a keeper! Helen wanted some sparkler photos too, so we waited around for dark and got really creative.
Be sure to scroll all the way down to see how Alex got in on the action! I almost didn’t post that one, but thought it was too funny not to share. #ghostalex (for those non-photographers, that’s what happens when your flash goes off unexpectedly while your shutter is held open!)
Thank you, Hutchinson girls, for keeping me accountable and inspiring me to get creative! If this is only January, I can’t wait to see what else 2019 brings.
