18 Aug Jessie’s Sweet 16 Birthday | a Sunrise Photo Session
For girls, turning 16 is a big deal. We’ve given each of our girls one big birthday party – on their sweet 16th birthday. It’s the only one where we really go big. At least for our standards. Jessie is the last of our girls to turn 16, and all she asked for was a flower crown and a photoshoot. A girl after my own heart! We were more than happy to give in!
Getting the perfect flower crown was easy! I contacted one of our favorite florists, Kristin with Everbloom Design, and pretty much gave her carte blanche. I told her the colors we were using and that we were going for something bohemian. Then I sat back and let her do what she does best, and the result was stunning! The flower crown was everything we wanted, and then some! Jessie LOVED it and couldn’t wait to put it on! Kristin even had a little left over that she used to make a second smaller crown.
Since the party was in the evening, the only time we could do the photo shoot was the morning of the party. We wanted the best light, so we decided on a sunrise shoot. This was the best decision we could have made! Not only was it a lot cooler, but it ended up raining for most of the rest of the day. But the morning light was gorgeous and perfect! We got up at 5:30 a.m. to do her hair and makeup, then made our way to a park that’s close to our house for sunrise.
I gotta say… I have this kid well-trained! Photographing her is SO easy.
*warning*: TONS of photos following. It’s harder to narrow them down when it’s your own kid!!*
We started shooting even before the sun peeked over the trees, and the morning light was so soft and beautiful.
Jessie wanted maroons and pinks, so we gathered a couple outfits that matched the flowers.
My girl even makes walking look good!
We had to do some twirls!
Yes, those are her real eyes. No, I didn’t do a single thing in post-processing to make them this blue. She’s a natural beauty!
A real laugh <3 Daddy was on hand for giggles.
Sigh. Can’t believe I made her.
Jessie, I hope your sweet 16 was everything you wanted in a birthday. I didn’t know I could love you any more, but I do. Every year.
Happy birthday, sweetie!
