Weddings usually tend to be all about the bride. Gorgeous gown, fabulous florals, beautiful bridesmaids (see what I did there?). We all know this, and most grooms are perfectly comfortable with it. However, you can't have a wedding without the groom! Though he may be completely willing to give up the decision making process, he should be encouraged to take part in some of the choices for the day. The groom's cake is a perfect way to get your groom involved in the wedding - it's all about him! Seeing as how today is May 4th, I thought this post was particularly appropriate for today! Read on to see some groom's cake inspiration... and May the 4th be with you!
We always know a wedding at the Cannon Center will be a good one, and Angelique and Marcus' day did not disappoint! We were excited for this one ever since their sexy engagement shoot, so we were so ready to get our cameras on them again! The wedding day was a perfect reflection of them. It was nearly entirely white, with only a splash of soft yellow here and there. The ceremony was intimate and classy, with soft sheers draping the entire room, while the reception had a modern sophisticated feel with lots of white leather lounge furniture. And the after party! Yes! After the reception, the entire space was flipped yet again for a nightclub party that lasted all night! We would have expected nothing less from Angelique and Marcus.
I firmly believe that the couples that Ed and I get along with best are those that have similar values as our own. I think that's true for a lot of relationships, actually. We easily build a rapport and intuitively know what is most important to them. This makes photographing their story and their important moments so much easier! Ed and I have been married long enough that we can tell you in an instant what is most important to us: family, friends, and living a good life to the fullest. We love to celebrate anything (we don't need much of an excuse for a party!), and as long as our loved ones are near, we're good.
We have a large family. And I don't just mean us. Yes, two parents and four children is not exactly small, but when you count in grandparents, aunts, uncles, and nephews, it gets even bigger. The best bonus of a big family? Instant party! Jessie's 15th birthday snuck up on us over the weekend, so we were especially thankful to all our family who came and made it so special for her!
Olivia is my kind of girl. She's got spunk, style, and she doesn't care what other people think. When I first met her, I knew we would get along just fine! Her wedding day was everything she and Todd wanted it to be - classy, fun with a little bit of quirkiness, and just totally them. Watching them love, I could see how they complimented each other perfectly and knew that they were meant to be.
Today, my sweet Helen is 16. Birthdays are strange. I always know they're coming, but as a mom, they always sneak up on me in a bittersweet kind of way. I don't need much of an excuse for a party, and I love celebrating, but it's hard when your kids get one year farther from being a kid.
For a girl, 16 is a big deal. It's the year when you finally get to leave girlhood behind. Sniff. And Helen is growing into such a lovely young lady! She is quiet, yet sure of herself. Beautiful, yet strong. Shy, yet the bonds of friendship are fierce. Sometimes it's hard to see into her little world to figure out exactly who she is, but it's obvious that she knows. She has a quiet confidence, a style all her own, and she enjoys being different. I love that about her!
