We made an instant bond with Erica and Travis. We felt attracted to their genuine and sweet hearts, but when we learned that they met and fell in love not far from the place that Ed and I did, we loved them even more! I have always wanted to photograph a couple in the Mississippi Delta. Ed and I began our lives together in the Delta, so when Erica and Travis told us that they wanted their engagement session there, we were totally on board! It felt so good to get back to our roots!
These two are getting married on Saturday. Like, in two days. Like, in "get your act together and do the blog post already, Amy!" We are SO excited to witness the beginning of their new journey, and if it's anything like their Memphis engagement session, we know the wedding is going to be fabulous!! In the meantime, we are so excited to share their engagement session!
Oh, you guys! I am SO over-the-moon excited to share this session today! I can't tell you how long I've been wanting to photograph a couple in a canoe. In formal clothes. In the lake. At sunset! It takes a special, adventurous couple to give us the trust and freedom for this type of shoot, and we found it in Val and Reed! They were not afraid of getting a little wet, and just WAIT until you see them standing up in the canoe! This one was one of our favorites for so many reasons!
We don't break the rules often. But special circumstances call for exceptions! With this engagement session, we broke ALL the rules. 1. Only shoot right before sunset. 2. Don't shoot on holidays. 3. NEVER shoot when it rains. 4. Only shoot when the temperature is between 50 and 80 degrees. Yeah, we broke every single one of those. And you know what? I'd do it again. This special New Year's Eve engagement session turned out to be one of our favorites!
We had such a great time during this colorful engagement session! Fall is never a disappointing time to shoot, and the red, orange, and yellow leaves added even more color to these images. When we accidentally found a purple door that perfectly matched Liz's lavender shirt, it was the icing on the cake! We got to know these two quite well as we explored midtown together, looking for all the perfect spots that would bring out their personalities.
Hello 2017! I've been super bad about updating the blog with our recent shoots, but I have a good excuse! We shot SO many sessions in November! We don't have a long fall season here in the South, so we have to jump on what we do get. Here in Memphis, November really gives us the best for Fall as far as temperature and color goes, so we stayed busy the whole month. And that means we have so much to share!
On the contact form on our website, I ask couples to list three words that describe them. This just gives me an idea of the bride and groom's personalities before we even meet, and also makes them think about what makes them unique. When Mary filled out the form, one of the words she used was "rum." I knew from that moment on that we were going to get along fabulously! She also listed "fun" and "kind" and after meeting and spending time with them, I couldn't agree more.
When Emily first emailed me about her wedding, I kept thinking to myself, "This name is so familiar. Do I know her?" I went on to compose my reply, sent it off to her, then it hit me. I immediately emailed her again, asking, "are you by any chance a high school teacher? I think you had my daughter Helen in your English class last year!" I even remembered Helen telling me that her teacher got engaged. It just so happened that Emily was that teacher!
Spring is kicking into high gear here in the South, so we are doing lots of engagement sessions lately! We absolutely LOVE doing engagement sessions. It's our time to really get to know our couples, and we love hearing all their love stories! It's such an honor for us to be able to capture this time in their lives. Engagements fly by so fast and this special time gets overlooked by the whirlwind of wedding planning. It's so great to take a day and really celebrate this time!
I absolutely love shooting engagement sessions! It's a couple hours each time that I get to really flex my creativity, try new things, and do my best to get a glimpse into someone else's life. But the best thing about them is that Ed and I get to know our clients better. It's time for us to learn their story and see how they love. We've made so many new friends over the past year, and I know I'm one of the few lucky ones who gets to say that I truly love what I do!
