I say it all the time, because it’s so true: our favorite thing about our job is that we have new friends when the wedding is over. But with Kristi and Matt, we ended up with new friends before the wedding! We got along so well with them right away. And when they pulled out three bottles of flavored tequila after their engagement session and invited us to stay for cocktails, we sealed our friendship right then and there! Since that day, we have shared more cocktails, and even more laughs. We looked forward to their wedding not only as photographers, but as friends! We’re so thrilled to be sharing this one today!
Oh friends, we have such a treat for you today! I’ll go ahead and warn you ahead of time… this is a very lengthy post! I had so much trouble narrowing down my favorite photos. I love them all, and they all tell a part of the story of this incredible day. Now comes the hard part – trying to figure out what to say about this amazing, classic Memphis Hunt and Polo Club wedding. While I love words, and I love to talk, trying to find the right words for all the awesomeness that happened on this day is going to be a challenge. But I’ll give it my best shot…
We are beyond excited to share this elegant blue and pink Memphis wedding with you today! April is one of our busiest months of this year, and we were thrilled to start it off with Emily and Josh! One of our most favorite things is when we get to photograph a family a second time. A few years ago, we shot sweet Ellen and Bobby’s wedding, so when it came time for Ellen’s little sister to get married, we were so glad they called us!
We first met with Akeilah and Tony back in July of LAST YEAR, more than a full year before their wedding. We loved them right away, and it didn’t hurt that we spent more time laughing with them than anything else. So, you can imagine how eager we were to see them again, and even more excited to get them in front of our cameras!
Emily’s smile was the first thing I noticed about her. She has that kind of smile that means every inch of it, that lights up her whole face. You can’t fake a smile like that! I knew as soon as I met her that Emily was a kind, genuine person, just like her smile. I also knew that Trey was lucky to have her, so he must be pretty special too. He didn’t get to come to that initial meeting, so we were eager to meet him at their engagement session to see if he was as great as Emily. It turns out that he is just as warm and caring as we had suspected. These two make such a great pair!
Emily had been waiting for this summer break for a long time. She’s a high school teacher (she taught our daughter, Helen!), and every year, she gets even more excited about the end of the school year than the kids! But this year, she packed her last bag a little more quickly than usual, and hurried out the door with a bit more hustle than the year before. This year, she had even more to look forward to. As soon as school was out, she was marrying her best friend! When she returns to school in the Fall, she will be a Mrs. instead of a Miss. Nothing could dampen her end-of-year spirits! Not even a little rain.
They don’t do serious. They don’t do sadness or tears (except happy ones!). They don’t do drama, or too much, or too little. They never stop talking. They never stop laughing. And these are only a FEW of the reasons we love Erin and Donny so much! Their officiant described them best during their wedding ceremony when he said, “Not only do Erin and Donny LOVE each other, but they sure do LIKE each other a lot! And they like doing life together.” Yes. That.
We started a new tradition last year. Every February, Ed and I take an annual trip with our best friends. To get away and focus on friendship before things really start to get busy. Just a few days. Enough time to add another checkbox to our travel journals, to shirk responsibility in order to stay young, and to go and see and do. Last year, we toured the Jack Daniels distillery in Lynchburg and hit the Nashville nightlife. But last year, it was a cold trip, staying true to February. And last year, our best friends weren’t engaged. We decided to change things up this year!
As we were chatting with the wedding coordinator this day, she commented that Keith and Joe couldn’t have been more perfect for each other – they were each the yin to the other’s yang. We agreed heartily. Keith and Joe seem like complete opposites on the outside, yet they compliment each other so beautifully, that you just can’t imagine one without the other!
By the time their wedding day came, Temi and Michael had really already been married for nearly two months. They had a traditional Nigerian wedding… in Nigeria. So they may have been legally married, but Temi had to return to her home in the states, and Michael remained behind to tie up loose ends in Nigeria. So, while they were technically married, they still didn’t have much time together, nor were they even in the same time zone!
