Arkansas Barn Wedding

Kelli + Josh: Joined | an Arkansas Barn Wedding

One of my favorite things on a wedding day is when the bride and groom exchange notes before they see each other. It is the perfect way to say everything you know you will forget to say, the perfect way to keep the importance of the day at the forefront of your mind, the perfect way to build anticipation for that moment when you finally see each other.

Kelli and Josh wrote letters to each other on their wedding day, and as photographers, we are lucky enough to be present for the moment when they read them. We never know exactly what the words say, but we get enough of an idea by their reactions. I knew that Kelli and Josh were meant for each other already, but it was confirmed when Kelli read her letter, started laughing, and exclaimed with a smile, “I said the exact same thing in my letter!” Yep. They’re soul mates for sure!

Kelli and Josh planned a gorgeous outdoor fall wedding at The Barn in Arkansas. This was our first time shooting there, and we always love the creative inspiration that a new location provides! The forecast called for rain that day, but Kelli would not allow a single chair to be moved inside. She is an optimist to the end, and I love that about her! Other than a few sprinkles once during the day, the weather held out, and Kelli and Josh recited their vows outside, under the beautiful wood arbor that Josh built himself.

Kelli and Josh are both country folks at heart, so they couldn’t get married without their cowboy boots!

Josh’s boutonniere was made with feathers that he collected while hunting. I loved their black and white contrast!

Kelli and Josh chose to see each other before the ceremony, and we set aside plenty of time to roam the property for photos. We were never rushed during the day, and they got to enjoy each other by themselves for awhile. That is the reason I love a First Look!

The stone patio and the front of the barn made the perfect backdrop for photos!

And so does Josh.

Kelli’s maid of honor was her way-too-adorable daughter Maddi.

I loved the linen color of the guys’ suits.

The ceremony was perfectly colorful and rustic, and the clouds made sure the colors really popped!

The bridesmaids surprised Kelli by ringing their collection of cowbells after the First Kiss!

The reception was simple yet beautiful. Kelli did most of the decorating herself!

We went outside right at sunset for a few more portraits before the party really got going.

Kelli and Josh, thank you so much for allowing us to be a part of your day! We loved witnessing your love for each other, and sharing in the celebration! Not only have you started a new marriage together, but you have become a new family. We can’t wait to see what the next year brings!

A special thank you to everyone who made this day so awesome:
