19 Sep LaShunda + Lauchland: a Downtown Memphis Cadre Wedding
LaShunda and Lauchland met in New Orleans, so it is a big part of their love story. They wanted a classy affair with a taste of that New Orleans flair, and that’s exactly what they got! Their whole day was completely suited for them. It was the perfect mix of Memphis and Mardi Gras, combining fleurs de lis and Southern hospitality. Their First Look and ceremony were full of tears and emotion, then they partied with handkerchiefs and second line band music. There was no better way for them to celebrate!
Because Lauchland is a military man and was deployed in Afghanistan for a good portion of the year, we were never able to schedule an engagement shoot with them. This means that the first time we ever met the groom was on the wedding day! Normally, that would make me a bit nervous, but LaShunda and Lauchland were so welcoming and natural, that we felt at home with them right away! Within minutes it was like we had been good friends all along, and I love it when that happens!
We began and ended the day at the historic Cadre Building, and we got so excited when we walked in and saw all their details, especially LaShunda’s gorgeous, sparkling, layered gown! It was perfect for her. I also loved the fleurs de lis engraved on Lauchland’s ring!
All of LaShunda’s bridesmaids signed her shoes. I thought that was such a cool idea!
Also awesome…. LaShunda and Lauchland have matching fleur de lis tattoos behind their ears. I’m telling you, when this couple commits to an idea, they go all the way!
All the girls helped LaShunda into her dress.
LaShunda and Lauchland chose to see each other before the ceremony, and their First Look was so sweet! Yes, that’s a tear on her cheek…
We then had time to roam around downtown and Main Street for some wedding day portraits.
I loved Ed’s angle on this one!
We thought this alley had a New Orleans-esque feel with its cobblestones and gas lamps.
LaShunda made a stunning bride, and those long stemmed orchids made an amazing bouquet!!
LaShunda and Lauchland had an amazing wedding party! They took their Mardi Gras party roles seriously, and everyone was so much fun! We were all laughing all day long.
One of my very favorite touches was this fountain that they brought in for the space! It certainly added to that New Orleans feel!
I have a sentimental attachment to this photo, because our Morgan did the very same thing at our own wedding! She had to stop and say hi to everyone as she walked down the isle. Flower girls are the best!
And THIS photo is the reason we have two shooters!!! I was not in a great position to capture the fist bump that Lachland gave to LaShunda’s dad as he gave her away, but Ed had the perfect angle! He gets a raise for this photo!
He was also able to go up to the balcony during the ceremony to grab this perfect shot of Lauchland wiping away his tears. Sigh.
The First Dance…
Ed’s angle… Love this sweet shot!
It’s not Mardi Gras without a party! This reception was so much fun!
LaShunda and Lauchland, thank you so much for the honor of capturing your day! You two have a beautiful kind of love, and we were so happy to be able to share in your day. I know the next phase of your life together will be even more awesome!
