26 Jan Jenny + Nathan | Intimate Fall Smoky Mountain Wedding
We photographed Jenny’s sister’s wedding 6 years ago, so when her mom called me for this one, we were thrilled! She told me over the phone, “we’re not getting married without Amy,” and that warmed my heart and made my day! A lot has changed in the world between the two weddings, and the family had to make some decisions due to Covid. Not only did they decide to change dates, they changed cities!
Jenny’s and Nathan’s families take Covid and its risks very seriously, and we are so grateful for that! Instead of putting off their wedding and waiting it out, Jenny and Nathan decided to move up their date and have a family-only celebration. In Fall. In the mountains. They knew having a small, intimate mountain wedding celebration in a cabin with an amazing view was more their style anyway. So the whole family got Covid tests so that they could bypass the masks (we wore ours). That way, they were able to have a days-long celebration together in the Smoky Mountains.
We woke on the wedding day to a cloudy, drizzly day. The fog and mist in the mountains was so thick, you could only see a few feet in front of you. Luckily, throughout the day, the fog slowly lifted and revealed the beautiful Fall colors that we were all hoping to use as a backdrop. I was secretly thankful for the fog and mist, because it gives character and personality to the mountains. As Jenny’s dad reminded us, “this is why they call it the Smokies!” With a gentle shroud, the red and orange foliage was a shock of color. I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful location for photos!
Intimate Fall Smoky Mountain Wedding
Jenny and Nathan chose a color pallet of navy, champagne, and burgundy that was perfect for the season. Jenny’s mom made the wedding cake, and Jenny lovingly decorated the dinner table herself. Nathan’s brother helped him get dressed, while Jenny’s mom and sister saw that Jenny’s details were just right. Jenny and Nathan’s baby son served as best man, with their two dogs filling in where they could. The whole day was relaxed, intimate, and matched their personalities to a T!
Just because there were only 10 people in attendance did not mean that the day was lacking emotion! Jenny and Nathan both were misty-eyed as they read their own vows to each other. Their son drew out smiles and “awwwws” throughout the day. The dogs sat obediently as they waited for their owners to officially become a family. Afterward, we used the magnificent view for some portraits before the sun sank below the mountains.
For dinner, the families had hired a chef to cook the reception meal. To end the night, they all toasted the bride and groom while eating a 5-course meal out on the covered deck. If you ask me, Covid did Jenny and Nathan a favor. I don’t see how any other wedding day would have fit them better! Thank you so much for including us, Jenny and Nathan. It truly was a spectacular day, and I know you all enjoyed the gorgeous vistas as much as we did! Enjoy this small sneak peek of your intimate mountain wedding day!
