03 Jun Lori + Kenny | a Mississippi Summer Backyard Wedding
We all watched the sky with anticipation. The weather was predicting over 80% chance of rain, and both the ceremony and reception were planned for outdoors. Lori and Kenny had taken a leap of faith and decided against the extra tent for the ceremony site. Rain or shine, they were getting married outside! Lori had a photo of her and Kenny’s grandparents, who couldn’t be with them, wrapped tightly around her bouquet, and Kenny later said that it was due to them that they had such great luck with the weather.
When the time came for the First Look, not a single drop of rain had fallen! The sky was blue and had only a couple white, puffy clouds scattered across it. That, coupled with the lazy, soothing sound of the cicadas that only make an appearance once every 13 years, made for the perfect summer backyard wedding! The celebration was held at Kenny’s family farm, and could not have been more beautiful.
It was a day full of love. Kenny could not take his eyes off his bride and he kissed her whenever he had the chance. He has this way of looking right into Lori’s eyes so that he knows exactly what she’s feeling. Lori’s smile widened whenever she glanced at Kenny, and they kept each other close for the entire day. When it came time for toasts, each of the parents bubbled with pride and said that they could not have chosen a better mate for their son and daughter. Everyone agreed that these two were destined for each other.
The day started with so many pretty goodies! We wanted to make sure that we captured both the rustic and elegant style of the wedding. Lori had everything gathered for me by the time we arrived, and it was then that I knew the day was going to be a breeze!
Turquoise is Lori’s favorite color as well as my own, so I was thrilled to be surrounded with so many turquoise goodies!
Lori made a stunning bride! Stunning.
Kenny thought so too! They chose to see each other before the ceremony, and their First Look was so sweet. Kenny audibly whispered “oh my God!” through a teary smile when he saw Lori for the first time.
We had so many beautiful options for portraits! We roamed the property while Kenny and Lori just enjoyed being together.
The ladies were all gorgeous in their summer turquoise dresses!
And these dapper guys were so much fun and kept us all laughing.
Kenny has such a talent for woodworking, and he made this arbor himself! His creations were a huge part of the DIY factor of this wedding. Not only did he create this stunning arbor for the ceremony, but he made the ring box, table decorations and signs, a large mirror for Lori while getting ready, and a lot of the furniture that fills his parents’ house, among lots of other odds and ends for the ceremony and reception. The guests even wrote their names and well-wishes on little wood blocks that I know he already is planning to use!
During the ceremony, Lori and Kenny filled a wooden box (that I’m sure Kenny made) with mementos from their times together, as well as an unopened bottle of wine. I loved it!
Afterwards, we took a few more minutes to capture some portraits in the beautiful sunset light.
The reception tent was filled to the brim with gorgeousness! I loved the combination of rustic elegance with just a touch of whimsy. Sigh.
This chandelier in the center of the tent was amazing!
After the toasts, Lori, Kenny, and their guests walked out to the pond and lit lanterns that floated away into the night.
Lori and Kenny, we can’t thank you enough for including us in your day! This was one wedding we have been looking forward to for a long time, and it was worth the wait! We couldn’t have asked for better clients, better weather, or a more beautiful day! I know you’re having a blast in St. Lucia. We can’t wait to hear all about it!
A very special thank you to everyone who made this day so stunning:
