01 Oct Woodland Rustic Fall Wedding Inspiration
We’re starting off our autumn wedding inspiration with Katie and Steven’s woodland rustic fall wedding! There are several reasons their wedding is one of our favorites. First of all, both Katie and Steven are the sweetest couple! Ed and I felt like we were all old friends right after meeting them. And it doesn’t hurt that they’re both redheads! They are so perfect for each other in every way. They are getting ready to welcome their first baby, and I can’t wait to see him!
An outdoor fall wedding was the only way to go for these two. Not only was the weather a glorious fall day, but their location couldn’t have been more beautiful! Lichterman Nature Center was the perfect place for a rustic, woodland theme. We always love shooting at Lichterman! Its natural surroundings are a photographer’s dream. There are so many paths, nooks, and ponds to explore, and it’s so easy to get great photos no matter where you go. The leaves were just beginning to change colors and provided the most gorgeous fall backdrop!
Lastly, Katie planned this wedding on a budget, but it’s not short of details! Katie did a lot of DIY projects herself, but let the location dictate the direction of her wedding planning. Nature helped out with beautiful fall foliage and flowers to supplement their theme. The flowers were understated, but perfectly suited for their style! Katie’s autumn bouquet and the baby’s breath that the bridesmaids carried were so beautifully fall. Their chosen colors of navy and brown could not have been more perfect!
As promised, I have put together a recipe for the perfect autumn wedding signature cocktail! I love it when couples have signature cocktails at their wedding. It’s a great way to personalize the bar at the reception, and guests LOVE them! Thinking up the cute, creative names is the best part! Everyone knows I love cocktail hour, and photographing these signature concoctions are always a favorite of mine!
I thought an apple cider cocktail would be perfect for today’s inspiration. The colors go perfectly, and the warm, natural scents and flavors could not be more appropriate for a woodland rustic fall wedding!
I found this recipe on Lonny’s website (one of my favorite online home decor magazines!), and it sounds amazing! I will definitely be giving this a try when it gets a little cooler. The cocktail itself is super easy. I know serving it in hollowed-out apples would be ADORABLE for a wedding, but it might be a bit labor-intensive. If your caterer can do it for you, I say go for it! If not, this cider would be just as pretty in glass cups with a cinnamon stick!
Spiced Apple Cider Cocktail
— 6 cups apple cider
— ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
— ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
— 2 star anise, plus more for garnish
— 2 cinnamon sticks, plus more for garnish
— 1 (2-inch) piece fresh ginger, sliced
— 2 strips orange peel, about 2 inches long
— ½ cup maple syrup
— 1½ cups bourbon
In a stockpot, combine apple cider, cloves, nutmeg, star anise, cinnamon sticks, ginger, orange peel and maple syrup. Bring to a boil over medium high heat, then lower to a simmer for 10 minutes. Keep warm until ready to serve. To serve, add ¼ cup bourbon to each apple cup and top with cider, a cinnamon stick, and star anise.
